Hello, I’m Dr Tracy Spiers, also some people know me as Dr Fun.

I’m an illustrator, author, researcher and Playfulness Practitioner exploring how playfulness can help people rediscover joy, wonder, connection and belonging. So, metaphorically speaking, I help people find their marbles again.

I hold a PhD in Art and Design, specialising in playfulness, which means I've spent a great deal of time taking playful things very seriously. Through workshops, interactive talks, creative practice, research and a developing body of work called Inspiring Playfulness, I create opportunities for people to reconnect with themselves, one another and the things that help them flourish.

I’ve spent much of my life following curiosity wherever it leads — as a BBC broadcast journalist in radio and television, as the author and illustrator of devotional and children’s history books, and now through my research and practice exploring the power of playfulness. Along the way, I’ve become increasingly convinced that curiosity, creativity and have a playful attitude are not distractions from life, but some of the ways we make sense of it.

Away from my desk, I’m married to Rog, mum to five fabulous grown-up daughters, a devoted seeker of kingfishers on morning runs, an enthusiastic designer of things, and a firm believer in the restorative powers of a really good oat latte. In other words, I’m still practising paying attention, wondering, and occasionally finding my marbles in unexpected places.

Sometimes what we’re searching for isn’t lost. We’ve just forgotten how to use it.
